America

As an American citizen, I have to speak my mind about an issue. The issue of the Presidential Election. Lately, I have been staying out of the politics of it all, mainly because I am not a fan of any of the candidates. But I cannot stay silent any longer.

This election is a joke. It has turned into such a spectacle and is now nothing more than a popularity contest and/or a reality show. It seems as though that the candidates, even though they spout things that make groups agree with them, are just trying to beat each other. It doesn't seem like any of the candidates care about the whole of America and its people. Yes they each say things that target and influence certain groups, however, now it seems as if they are only using these tactics to manipulate each group because they know it's working.

The other reason I cannot stay silent is because of all the hate everyone has been spouting lately. This election is turning families, friends, and even races and genders against each other. Now I know that this happens every day anyways, even though they are issues that should not be happening at all, but as I watch this happen even more than before, I realize what is going on. These candidates are pulling us apart and manipulating groups to feel so much hate toward each other because it helps them get votes. They are using our freedoms to benefit themselves all the while turning us into little minions to feed their causes. Is that what we should look for in a President? No. However, it seems we really have no choice this time in the long run.

We are better than this, America. Instead of feeding into the ploys, we should be standing together as one nation. As one People. We are a country who is lucky enough to have Democracy and freedom. But if we give in to the media hype and the irrational behavior, what does that make us? It makes us slaves to manipulation. It makes us weak. This is a good reason why so many countries make fun of us and so many find us vulnerable. If we do not stand together, then we are no better than their opinions of us.

Although this election is one that will go down in history, why should we let it also be the one that turns the American people on themselves? Instead, we should take this as an opportunity to become a stronger people and stand up for each other (and by stand up for each other, I do not mean attack every opposing viewpoint btw). I mean STAND TOGETHER. Together as a country. Show the world that we are great and proud, and not the joke that we have turned into.

I do not know who I will be voting for come this election, like I said I do not like any of the choices that we have. But in conclusion, we deserve to put aside our differences and stand as one. So wake up, America. Be a country to be proud of.
